If you are related to us, you should expect drama!

My in-laws arrived on Monday, but they were almost 6 hours late and had to fly to a different airport. They flew in to JFK, got through immigration just fine, only to find that their connecting flight was canceled. They planned on taking the next flight, only for it to be canceled. That was the last flight to Maryland that day. Well, that wasn't going to work. They ended up having to get a cab and head to Laguardia airport to attempt to catch a flight to National Airport, instead of BWI. Luckily they met up with a few ladies who seemed to know what to do, so they tagged along and made it to the airport safely, only to find that their next flight was once again canceled. This was all going on while they had no way to call us. Being from England, they didn't have the luxury of having a cell phone with them that worked here. They didn't have any change, and no one was really willing to help. They eventually found a British man from North London that traveled to the U.S. frequently. He helped by giving them money and helping them work the phone. Gareth was able to play investigator at one point and track them down by phone in the airport. Long story short, they were finally able to fly in at 9:30 to National airport, and we were there to meet them. This was the first time in over 10 years that they have ever done a connecting flight instead of direct. I don't see that happening again. By the way Andy, mum and Joe day that they don't blame the travel agent, just the bad weather.

On our adoption note, we still haven't heard anything. Pretty frustrated, but at least we have mum and Joe here to do some fun things this week!!!

Another update!

"You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised." Hebrews 10:36

I emailed a friend earlier today that had emailed to check on how we were holding up. I realized tonight that many out there have asked and gotten the generic answer, and many have told me that they are afraid to ask how we are doing. I just decided to share part of the email that I wrote to her to give you an idea as to where we are:

Daily, it is a struggle to try and understand how people can hold this process up
for such inscrutable reasons. It is heart wrenching to know that they care nothing of the children waiting
for their families.

We try and be strong, but in the end, we are just resigned to waiting until the day that we get a
glimpse of the what life will be as a family of 5 instead of 4. I just pray that it is soon!! In the
meantime, I am trying to appreciate and enjoy the beautiful children that we have, but at times it is so
hard to not completely focus on the little one that should be home playing with his siblings. We are
still waiting to hear whether we have been resubmitted in to the Mixco Civil registry.
2 weeks will mark 6 months since our approval out of PGN:0( (we should have traveled about 3 weeks from that point)

On a more positive note, Gareth's parents fly in tomorrow. We have a lot of fun things planned and the kids are ecstatic. I will post more later on in the week as to how the visit is going. In the meantime, please continue to lift our adoption up in prayer!!!

Once Again, not good news!

Are we surprised? I am not. We were told today, that although our paperwork checked out fine this time, and there is nothing to correct, the General Secretary has decided that he doesn't like the fact that we had two different lawyers signing off on our file.
We had two different lawyers because we have been at this 2 years. This past fall, our original lawyer went on vacation for over a month. in that time, we got our approval. The other lawyer had to sign off for us to pick up our file from the government agency that had it. He is now finishing our case. (or trying to) The funny thing is, as complicated as all of this sounds, no one has ever encountered it before. (because they shouldn't be doing it) Anyway, the response from the current people helping us was, "when we find out how to fix it, or what they want us to do about it, we will let you know". Gotta love that. They were just as frustrated as we are. For some reason, we just are not able to get this little boy home!!! He is 18 months old today. You would never know that we got his first picture the day he was born.

Today, Callum had his big speech testing to place him for next year. He did so well. It lasted over an hour and a half. I totally expected him to melt down about a half an hour in to it. He was a trooper. He is doing so well in just his everyday speech that you would never know this time last year he didn't have 5 words in his vocabulary. On Monday, Gareth and I were doing yard work. I was using the weed whacker. The back yard was so long that I had to cut it down before Gareth could mow it. Anyway, Callum was playing with his sidewalk chalk and I had come around the house to have Gareth fill the trimmer back up. Callum looked at me and said, "mommy, why you green?" I looked down, and the complete front of me was covered in grass. I said, "oh, this is just grass because mommy is helping daddy". He said, "oh, ok then". It was so cute. He is such a little man.

Alex got her 3rd quarter report card. We again are very proud of her. She had all perfect marks except for listening and punctuation. When we talked to her about it, she said, "I know that I need to listen the first time from now on and i will." Then she said, I know how to put a period at the end of a sentence. Sometimes, I just don't' want to. " It isn't that she is lazy, she just wants to do things her way. One day, being stubborn will be a great quality to have, i am sure. We are so glad that she is doing so well and that she loves school. She got to go to the FISH Bowl party at the school. You get invited when you have done extremely well on your report card. There was a guy there that did all of these tricks with yo-yo's . She got one, and is so determined to learn how to do it. Grandad comes in a few weeks. Maybe he can show her:0)

Adoption Update!

We found out tonight that Mixco has again asked them to come back at the end of
this week. They still don't know whether the file will be approved or previewed. On one
hand, at least I don't have to hang out by the computer all day tomorrow waiting for an update.
On the other, this process is taking it's toll on me. It feels like we will never get this little boy home. I don't know why I am surprised at this news, but it seems like even if you prepare yourself for bad news, it doesn't really prepare you at all. you are still disappointed and upset. I am sure that they will go back at the end of the week and be told that they need to come back the next week.

Are we surprised?

Well, we called Guatemala today since we hadn't gotten an update and we were told that our lawyer wasn't in today. Guess we will have to wait another long weekend to see if we were kicked out of Mixco again.

I don't mean to sound ungrateful at all, but when you are expecting an update on Wed. or Thursday at the latest, it is pretty frustrating to then have to wait until the next week. Everyone keeps telling me that this wait will make us "more patient people." I don't buy that at all. If anything I am more frustrated and discouraged than anyone should have to be:'0(

Still no news!

We still haven't heard a thing. Not even an email to say which way the news went this time. We are kinda thinking that if it was good, they would have wanted to share.
Hopefully we will hear something before the weekend:0(

First soccer practice!

The kids had their first night of soccer tonight. Gareth coaches Callum's team at 6:00 and Alex's at 7:00. They both did remarkably well. Alex is just a ball of energy on the field. I get worn out just watching her. Callum just wanted to "kick the ball" as he said about 100 times on the way to practice. He did get to do that, but he also did very well listening to his daddy too. They had a great time and were completely exhausted by the time we got home. I am team mom for both teams. Don't know how that happened, but I am sure it will be fun. By the end of the night, it was so cold that we couldn't feel our fingers. It is April for goodness sakes. I am ready for spring!!

Everyone here is doing well. My dad is doing great!! Other than a few bad days, he is up and chatty. It is great to have him doing so well.

We got an update this past week, that we should find out tomorrow whether we will be issued a birth certificate or receive another kick out. I hate to sound negative, but we aren't getting our hopes up. If it happens, it will be a pleasant surprise:0)
